The Carbon County Railroad was incorported in 1922 and operated until 1980. The mainline ran from Columbia Coal Mine to Columbia Steel Co., and carried coal. The track was rebuilt in 1942 with 90 lbs. rail. In 1943 it was acquired by U. S. Steel Co. (Defence Plant Corp) as part of the war effort.
